Distilled in 1989 at the renowned North British Distillery and bottled by Claxton's as part of its prestigious Warehouse No. 1 series, this exceptional single grain Scotch whisky demonstrates the elegance that can only come from decades of patient maturation.

Having spent 32 years developing in a PX Sherry Hogshead, Cask No. C22063 yielded just 344 bottles. Bottled in 2022 at a natural cask strength of 51% ABV, this release offers an authentic representation of mature grain whisky, where time and careful cask selection have shaped a spirit of remarkable character and intensity.

The Pedro Ximénez cask has enriched the whisky with layers of dried fruits, honeyed sweetness and delicate spice, while allowing the naturally silky texture of well-aged grain whisky to shine through. Although refined rather than overtly complex, this bottling impresses through its balance, concentration of flavour and effortless drinkability.

Presented at natural colour and without chill filtration, this North British release is a superb example of how mature single grain whisky can deliver sophistication, depth and immense pleasure in the glass.

Tasting note:

Nose: Rich and expressive from the very first moment. Roasted hazelnuts take centre stage, accompanied by the gentle bitterness of fresh walnuts. As the whisky opens, the sweet influence of the PX cask unfolds beautifully, bringing layers of ripe red fruits and honeyed richness. Notes of freshly planed oak, warm butter cake and golden honey complete a nose that is both inviting and elegant.

Palate: The arrival is initially marked by a subtle bitterness that quickly gives way to the generosity of the PX sherry cask. Waves of red fruits emerge, ranging from bright and fresh berries to deeper, more decadent stewed fruit notes. Creamy custard pastries, delicate black tea and buttery shortbread biscuits add further complexity. Silky and smooth in texture, the palate carries enough spice and structure to maintain interest throughout.

Finish: Long, warming and satisfying. Lingering notes of tea and vanilla intertwine with the return of buttery shortbread. A gentle peppery spice develops alongside a slightly dry, pleasantly bitter edge that adds sophistication without overwhelming the palate. The finish fades slowly, leaving behind impressions of mature oak and sweet pastry.
