Bottling info:
Distilled in 2001 at the legendary Long Pond Distillery in Jamaica and bottled by Precious Liquors in 2022, this outstanding 21-year-old single cask rum is a superb example of how extended continental ageing can preserve vibrancy while adding remarkable depth and elegance.
Matured exclusively in the United Kingdom, Cask No. 6 yielded just 286 bottles. Bottled at a formidable yet beautifully integrated 66% ABV, this release demonstrates that high strength does not necessarily equate to aggression. Instead, the spirit retains an impressive sense of balance, allowing Long Pond's distinctive fruity character and medium ester profile to shine.
This bottling challenges the assumption that only tropical ageing can produce world-class Jamaican rum. The prolonged UK maturation has allowed the distillate to evolve gracefully, maintaining its fresh fruit intensity while developing layers of spice, pastry notes and subtle oak complexity. The result is a rum that is both powerful and refined, appealing equally to seasoned Jamaican rum enthusiasts and those discovering the elegance of mature Long Pond expressions.
Presented at natural colour and without dilution, this Precious Liquors exclusive captures the essence of Long Pond's celebrated pot still distillate in one of its most harmonious forms.
Tasting note:
ose: Fresh, vibrant and immediately inviting. Tropical fruits lead the way, with notes of ripe pineapple, mango and papaya taking centre stage. Given time in the glass, the aroma evolves beautifully, revealing layers of vanilla pastry, gentle oak spice and hints of toasted coconut. Despite the elevated strength, the alcohol is exceptionally well integrated, enhancing the aromatic intensity without overwhelming the spirit.
Palate: Rich, elegant and remarkably composed. Waves of tropical fruit are joined by buttery pastry notes, cinnamon, clove and delicate barrel spices. Medium ester characteristics provide structure and complexity without dominating the experience. The texture is smooth and mouth-coating, delivering impressive concentration while remaining refined and balanced. The high ABV supports the flavour profile perfectly, adding energy and precision rather than brute force.
Finish: Long, warming and immensely satisfying. Lingering tropical fruit notes gradually give way to gentle oak tannins, sweet baking spices and subtle hints of toasted nuts. The spirit retains its elegance to the very end, leaving behind impressions of ripe fruit, soft wood influence and a delicate ester-driven complexity that invites another sip.
