Distilled in 1991 at Girvan Distillery and bottled by Claxton's as part of the highly regarded Warehouse No. 1 series, this exceptional single grain Scotch whisky is a testament to the remarkable elegance that extended maturation can bring to grain spirit.

After spending 32 years in a bourbon barrel, Cask No. C21004 yielded only 150 bottles, making this an extremely limited release. Bottled in 2021 at a robust cask strength of 55.5% ABV, the whisky balances concentration and complexity with the naturally smooth character for which mature Girvan is celebrated.

Unlike younger grain whiskies that often emphasise sweetness alone, prolonged maturation has allowed this spirit to develop impressive depth and sophistication. The bourbon cask enhances the whisky with layers of vanilla, honey and gentle oak spices, while preserving Girvan's trademark creamy texture and elegant fruit character.

Presented at natural colour and without chill filtration, this Claxton's Warehouse No. 1 bottling is a compelling example of how time and careful cask selection can elevate single grain whisky into a truly memorable drinking experience.

Tasting note:

Nose: Elegant and inviting, opening with notes of vanilla cream, honeycomb and freshly baked sponge cake. Layers of ripe orchard fruits emerge, led by poached pears, baked apples and hints of banana. Gentle oak brings nuances of toasted coconut, soft caramel and delicate baking spices, while the well-integrated alcohol adds intensity without overpowering the whisky's refined nature.

Palate: Rich and mouth-coating, the palate delivers waves of vanilla custard, buttery toffee and golden syrup. Mature oak introduces notes of cinnamon, nutmeg and toasted almonds, beautifully balanced by fresh fruit flavours of apricot, apple tart and citrus zest. The higher bottling strength lends structure and vibrancy, while Girvan's signature silky texture remains at the forefront.

Finish: Long, warming and increasingly complex. Sweet notes of vanilla fudge and honey-roasted nuts gradually give way to gentle oak tannins and lingering baking spices. Hints of coconut, shortbread biscuits and candied citrus peel remain on the palate long after the final sip, providing a refined and satisfying conclusion.
